Same Day Edits

The Trash the Dress is one of the newest trends in wedding photography. One of the newest trends in wedding video is a thing called the Same Day Edit. What we do is create a video right there at the reception and show it. These are two cools trends that are keeping wedding photography and video from becoming boring and stale.

We have branded the same day edit as the B.I.G. Video Show. The B.I.G. stands for Bride Instant Gratification. While the video is certainly going to wow your guests and bring a tear to everyone's eyes, the biggest benefit of doing this is that the bride (and groom) walk away with an immediate keepsake of the wedding day. They can show it to friends and relative because we give it to them on DVD the night of the wedding. And they can also show it to complete strangers on the plane down to their honeymoon because we give them an iPod video version of the edit.

And then, of course, we post the video online so the couple can share the video with loved one's who couldn't make it. You can see the video we did on Friday for Jennifer and Nick by checking out our website at Kenneth Stillman Video or reading about it on the KSV Blog.

Yesterday was a huge success. Much better than I think any of us could have imagined. We have so many great stories and images that I think we're going to have to tell our story in episodes. If I tried to explain the whole day the blog entry would be 3 pages long and you'd need to take a nap to finish reading it. But here is or group shot taken towards the end of the day. Some cool trash pictures will start trickling in. Stay tuned.

Getting Ready

So things have been a little quiet around the TTD blog lately. Well that's because it's all over but the shouting. The plans are in place, times and locations have been set, our bus route has been planned out. So there's nothing left to do, but to do it! It's the calm before the storm.

Come Monday you'll probably be reading all about the crazy shenanigans on each of our blogs and all over theknot.com. And then, of course, you'll start to see all the incredible pictures start getting released, which will eventually lead to the entire finished picture sets.

After the pictures are released you will start to see some incredibly cool videos by our creative editing staff at KSV. We have picked out some of the coolest music that has come along recently. Bookmark this site as well as our blogs (on the left) to stay up-to-date on all the cool Trash info.

Cinco Domanico? Ken, don't you mean Cinco de Mayo? No, I meant what I typed - Cinco Domanico.

Most people think that Cinco de Mayo (spanish translation: 5th of May) is Mexican independence day. Well, it's not. So what is it? Well, I have no clue. It has something to do with a battle won in some war. Who cares at this point because there is a much more important holiday to celebrate!

That's right, folks. It's Caitlin's 1 year anniversary! Woohoo!

So of course everybody wants to know how to celebrate this new holiday. Well the first thing you'll want to do is find out what you are celebrating by going to the Cinco Domanico Video site. Then you'll want to stop by Caitlin's website and see her baby photography and then head over to her blog and send her a message wishing her a happy anniversary.

Bride Spotlight - Erika!

Erika and Justin got married last October in Marco Island, Florida, on the beach - it looks like they had a beautiful day and I can only wish I was the one photographing them that day! They just look like a super fun couple and I'm sure the wedding was a blast.

I have to admit Erika had me at "heavily tattooed" - and the rest of her TTD entry detailing some of her escapades and fun personality!

Own very own John Arcara has been featured recently on the national, and original Trash the Dress website. Sure we gave him props first right here on this blog, but don't worry - his head hasn't gotten big yet. He promises us he will still be at the Philly TTD on May 11, although a curious phone call from Drew Rosenhaus showed up on my caller ID today. No message was left. Things that make you go hmmm.

The Knot conducted its second annual survey of over 20,000 recent brides to capture detailed feedback on every business that couples hired for their wedding celebration. My good friends, Jen and Liz, at Fairytale Productions in Boston recently filmed a TTD for the new Lifetime TV show Get Married. These ladies are two of the most talented videographers in the industry today and are one of the most in-demand studios in the Boston area. Not taking anything away from the brides in Boston, but I think our girls will be more adventurous.

Katie had a fabulous Philly wedding last October at The Hotel Sofitel. After the ceremony, we walked around the downtown area and I snapped pictures of Katie & Mike as they jumped into doorways, ran through the streets and parks, and even ducked into a bar for a quick shot of tequila. Bride Spotlight - Caitlin

The day started out with the bride wishing me a Cinco Domanico, and sporting a T-Shirt with the catchphrase of the day silkscreened across the front. It was clear this would be no ordinary wedding.

The reference is, of course, to her wedding day and the mexican holiday Cinco De Mayo. However there wasn't going to be any fighting on this day. It was all a bunch of hugs and kisses.

The key to Caitlin's wedding being great was that is was very personal. She got ready with all her girls around, and they watched wedding movies all morning. She avoided a bridezilla moment when the bouquet arrived and the florist decided to deviate from the original plans. They had a relative perform the ceremony, although I do forget how she was related. And they picked unique songs for all their formal dances, They wanted their wedding to be personal and didn't care about what was popular or trendy.

Because the wedding was unique it is now one of the demos I show when clients are planning outdoor weddings. Caitlin recently bought a house and got a new wiener dog name Stretch. She has taken her love of photography and put it to good use by creating Caitlin Domanico Photography, which I'm sure will be hosting some pics from the TTD on May 11. She concentrates on children but has a talent for doing engagement shoots and still lifes.

Bride Spotlight - Christine

We thought it would be cool to introduce our brides - after all, without them, NONE of this would be happening.

In no particular order, we will feature each of our brides.

Today's bride is Christine!

One of my favorite things that she talked about in her entry were the juxtapositions in trash-the-dress photos -

A gorgeous flowing wedding dress against a stark concrete wall, an old tree, a paint-peeling bridge. To me, this type of photography is pure, raw art. I would be honored and ecstatic to be part of something similar--with a Philly twist, of course!

Christine described herself as the epitome of a fun fearless female, a feisty girl with a carefree attitude. We all look forward to working with her!

John Arcara Photography

The original plan was for 5 photographers and 5 brides, and then Kamila got an email from another photographer who wanted to join in - John Arcara. We didn't want this TTD to get super huge or out of control. We want to keep it smaller and give our brides more individual attention. So adding another photographer to the shoot was not something that we were looking to do. Well, one look at John's website and we were all blown away.

John and his wife Lovina do such tremendous work that it was a no brainer adding him to the roster. This also gave us the opportunity to take on one more bride. John and his wife are from Red Bank, NJ, so you might not know his name in the Philadelphia area, but one look at his website and I'm sure all the Philly brides will be calling. The picture he sent me this morning tells me that he is going to fit in just fine with the rest of us, and we are going to have a great time on this Trash the Dress shoot. Mark your calendars - May 11, 2008.

The "Official" Blog

The first official Philadelphia Trash the dress is set for Sunday, May 11, 2008. Yes, we know it's Mother's Day. But what better way to show mom that you love her than by taking the wedding dress that she had always hoped to see you in and destroying it? Holding this TTD on Mother's Day shows the true dedication of the brides who entered.

As of now the voting is closed. Votes are coming in from the 6 participating artists and an announcement will be made on Friday, March 21, 2008 at noon. Stay tuned here or on the blog of your favorite artist. It's going to be a great time with lots of creative ideas thrown around with some amazing photos being taken and some incredible video being shot.
